Swimming with Turtles in Zanzibar

What I Saw:

Today I saw some turtles and I got to swim with the turtles.  Also, I went to a spice farm on a spice tour.  I went snorkeling, it was not fun.  (there were jellyfish in the water and we were all stung)

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was swimming with the turtles.

What I Learned Today:

On the spice tour, I learned that cinnamon comes from tree bark.  The root of cinnamon tree smells like Vicks Vapor Rub. I went swimming with the turtles, they were green turtles.  They can live up to 120 years.  Turtles are herbivores.  The biggest turtle there was 3 feet long.

Visiting Lake Malawi

What I Saw:

I went to a beach at Lake Malawi.  From the campsite, I saw Kande Island.  At the beach, I made a big sand castle that was 10 feet tall.  I went swimming in the water.  I also went to a school and met kids in the village.  I went to a witch doctor that did a dance.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was building the big sand castle on the beach.

What I Learned Today:

I learned that Lake Malawi is the second deepest lake in Africa.  I also learned that it is 500 km long and 80 km wide.  The lake has more than 300 types of Cichlids that are only found here.  When I went to the school, I saw lots of kids.  When I get home, I am going to do a community service project to help the school.  They need gym clothes, books, pencils, paper, soccer balls, and clothes.  I am going to talk to Mrs. Riley when I get home to collect things from school to send to Africa.  I got the address to the school.

Getting Soaked at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

What I Saw:

I saw Victoria Falls. In the falls, I saw Rainbow Falls, Devil’s Pool, and Angel’s Pool.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was getting soaked in Victoria Falls.

What I Learned Today:

I leaned that Victoria Falls is the tallest falls in the world at 107 meters. It is the 2nd widest in the world. It’s the 3rd largest by average volume. I also learned at the markets that they make wood crafts.

Camping in the Okavango Delta

What I Saw:

Today I saw some giraffe, hippo, zebra, and wildebeest in the Okavango Delta.  I saw a hippo pool with hippos in it.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was swimming in the delta.  I swam to the deep area.

What I Learned Today:

The delta is 19,000 km2.  4 of the Big 5 are there, and the rhino is missing.  We rode in a makaro, also called a dug out canoe.  The people who drive the canoe are called polers.  I learned how to pole.  The delta is an inland delta, this means it doesn’t go to the ocean.  I saw lots of hippos in a pool.

Game Spotting in Etosha National Park

What I Saw:

I saw lots of animals.  I saw a giraffe, zebra, impala, white rhino, warthog, elephant, lion, dik-dik, mongoose, wildebeest, kudu, jackal, and many more.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was seeing all the animals in the Etosha National Park.

What I Learned Today:

I learned that the Big 5 are elephant, leopard, lion, rhino, and buffalo.  We saw elephant, lion and rhino.  The place they drink is a water hole.  They go eat far away from the water hole.

Canyons and Sanddunes in Namibia

What I Saw:

I saw Fish River Canyon.  I climbed Dune 45 and ran down Dune 45.  I camped at a vineyard where they grow grapes to make wine and played with two kids.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite p[art of the day was playing with George and Edward at the vineyard.

What I Learned Today:

I learned that Fish River Canyon is the second biggest canyon in the world, the Grand Canyon is the first biggest in the world.  Wine is made out of grapes, I learned that at the vineyard.  I leaned that dunes ar3e made of ocean sand.  It is hard to climb up a sand dune.

Penguins, Sharks and Table Mountain

What I Saw:

I saw Great White Sharks up close, African Penguins, and the Table Mountain view.  They call it Table Mountain because it is flat.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My Favorite part of the day was going to see the African Penguins living in their habitat.

What I Learned Today:

I learned at the African Penguins that penguins dig holes for nests.  They lay one or two eggs at a time.  The penguins live on land.  It is one of the last land dwelling penguin colonies in the world.

Ziplining through Angkor Wat

What I Saw:

I saw Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom and monkeys while ziplining.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was going on the old bridge and going on the ziplines.

What I Learned Today:

I learned that a female snake is called Nagini.  Nagini is the name of Voldemort’s giant snake.  It’s very hot and there are lots of spiders, tarantulas, and Daddy Long Legs.,  Angkor Wat is almost 1,000 years old.  It took 10,000 people to make it.  It has lots of four face statues, known as Face Towers.  The faces portray Jayavaman.

Cu Chi Tunnel Expedition

What I Saw:

I saw the Cu Chi tunnels.  I saw the ground entrance doors and I got to go under one too.  I also saw traps.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was crawling in the tunnels.

What I Learned Today:

I visited the Cu Chi tunnels.  I learned that they protected the Vietnamese from bombs.  The soldiers ate, slept, and lived there.  The traps were poisonous and blew up.  I got to go into a secret tunnel entrance, that was by a tree, to the tunnels.

Around Hanoi, Vietnam and Ha Long Bay

What I Saw:

I saw Ha Long Bay.  I got to swim in the bay and kayak too.  I also got to see the fishing village and the Karst mountains.  I also saw a prison in Hanoi.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was listening to karaoke on the cruise.

What I Learned Today:

While I was in Hanoi, I saw the Hoa Lo Prison.  The Americans were kept there, we saw pictures of them.  We saw the tunnels where the Vietnamese prisoners escaped.  We also saw the prison cells.  I learned that Ha Long Bay has Limestone or Karst mountains.  Ha Long means “big dragon” and Ba Long means “little dragon”.
