LEGOLAND!!!

What I Saw:

Today we went to the original LEGOLAND.  On a ride called the X-Polar, we saw live penguins, Lego polar bears, and much more on the ride.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was going on X-Polar.  On one part, you went straight down on a platform.

What I Did Today:

Today I got to meet Darth Vader.  I got to see that there are new Minecraft Lego sets called the Nether Fortress, the Snow Hideout, The Dungeon, and the Desert Oasis.  The Dungeon came with a monster spawner.  My favorite ride at LEGOLAND was X-Polar.

Biking in Berlin

What I Saw:

Today we went on a bike tour, we saw lots of very not cool stuff like the Berlin Wall and a watch town (**he meant “not cool” as in bad, not as in he didn’t like it).  I also saw the TV Tower.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was going on the bike tour.  I liked riding the bike, it was connected to the back of my dad’s bike.

What I Learned Today:

Today I learned about the Berlin Wall.  The Berlin Wall was built in 1961, it was built around West Berlin to keep the East Berliners from getting out of Germany.  The were watch towers to see if anyone tried to escape.  In 1990, Germany broke down the wall and was reunited.

What I Saw Today:

Today I saw the Residence Schloss which is a castle.  If I lived in a castle, it would be awesome.  The castle had a feather room and I like feathers.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

At the Residence Schloss, I saw suits of armor and swords too.  They had kid’s armor too, it was awesome.  I also ate a zebra steak with garlic sauce, it was good.

What I Learned Today:

Today I learned that there is a very cool church in Dresden.  It’s a really cool church that has a very cool history too.  It was torn down and rebuilt in the 18th century and bombed in World War II and rebuilt in 2005 again.

Visiting Vatican City and Ancient Rome

What I Saw:

Today I saw St Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museum with lots of artwork and the Sistine Chapel.  It is the most beautiful thing in the world.  I also saw the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, Ancient Rom and the Trevi Fountain.  I thought the Coliseum was awesome.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was eating ice cream.  My other favorite part of the day was going to the Coliseum.  I liked it because it is old, and the gladiators fought here too.

What I Learned Today:

Today I learned that the Vatican is a city inside of the city of Rome, it is the home of the Catholic church and the Pope.  The Sistine Chapel, the ceiling was painted by Michelangelo.  He painted the ceiling on his back.  I saw lots of paintings.  I also learned that the Coliseum was built in 80 A.D.  It is the largest amphitheater ever built.  They held games here where gladiators fought each other and also lions, tigers, and bears, oh my.  The Roman Forum is ancient Rome.

Visiting Pompeii and Climbing Mt. Vesuvius

What I Saw:

Today I saw the city of Pompeii, it was huge.  Today I also saw Herculaneum, it is much smaller than Pompeii.  I climbed Mt. Vesuvius too.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was going to Pompeii and looking at the gemstones at the stores on Mt. Vesuvius.

What I Learned Today:

Today I learned that Pompeii was covered in 3-6 meters of volcanic ash.  Mt Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD.  You can never out run Mt Vesuvius because it can pore 1,500,000 tons of lava per second and can shoot up lava and stones 33 km high.

Visiting the Gods in Athens, Greece

What I Saw:

Today I saw the Parthenon, the Acropolis, Zeus’s Temple, the Temple of Hephaestus, and Poseidon’s Temple.  They were awesome.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was eating pizza for lunch.  My favorite temple was the Temple of Hephaestus.

What I Learned Today:

Today I learned that the Acropolis is in Athens, Greece.  The Parthenon is on top of the Acropolis.  The Parthenon is dedicated to the Goddess Athena.  It was built in 450 BC.  It took 15 years total to build the Parthenon and the decorations.  Not a long time.

What I Saw:

Today I saw the temple of Ramses II and his wife Nefertiri.  I saw hieroglyphics inside of the temples.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was reading the hieroglyphics.  They look like they came out of the machine just one day ago!

What I Learned Today:

Today I learned that Abu Simbel was built for Ramses II and his wife, Nefertiri.  It was built in 1240 BC and moved in the 1960’s so it wouldn’t be under lake Nasser.  It cost $15,000,000 to move it.  It was in the Mummy Returns.

Temples Along the Nile River

What I Saw Today:

Today I saw the Philae Temple, Kom Ombo, and Edfu.  They were awesome.  I got to read all the hieroglyphics that I have learned.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was going to Edfu because it is the temple of Horace and Horace is my favorite Egyptian god.

What I Learned Today:

At the Philae Temple, I learned that it was built in 400 BC for the goddess Hathor.  In 500 AD, the Greeks came in and made it a church.  In the 1960’s, they moved it so it wouldn’t be under water from the dam.  It was in The Mummy Returns.

Pyramids and the Sphinx in Cairo, Egypt

What I Saw:

Today I saw three pyramids, the Sphinx, and the Imhotep museum.  It was a lot of walking and climbing.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was going to the pyramids.

What I Learned Today:

Today I learned that the Step Pyramid was made for King Djoser.  It was made in 2660 BC. The Great Pyramid of Giza was built for King Khufu to be buried in.  It was built in 2560 BC. It is one of the 7 Wonders of the World.  It is the tallest of the three pyramids.

Game Drive in the Ngorongoro Crater

What I Saw:

I saw a lot of wildebeests, and zebras too.  We saw 3 lions.  We saw all of the Big 5 except the leopard.  I saw the Ngorongoro Crater.

My Favorite Part of the Day:

My favorite part of the day was watching the acrobats the night before we went to the crater.

What I Learned Today:

Today I learned that the crater is 260 square km.  2 million years ago it could have been the tallest mountain in Africa, before it imploded, forming the crater.  They have all the Big 5 here.  It is the largest in tact crater in the world.
